When it all began

It hard to actually say when we first thought about adopting; it started a long time ago, at least 4-5 years. It was while living in St. Paul that we first get serious about it. We have known many families who have adopted in Chicago and Minnesota; interestingly, a good number of our good friends have one or more adopted children.

But when we moved Texas, for no particular reason of our own, we began serious reconsidering it. Not the part obout moving to Texas; we were always serious about that...and we had good reasons. All I need mention is the snow belt around Chicago and St. Paul. But about getting serious on the matter of adoption: for the first time, we initiated the lengthy process of completing all the applications, fingerprinting documentations, background checks, referrals, interviews, personal essays, etc....and getting it all notarized.

We began the process in the fall of 2003, and when we finished our part, just a little after year-end of the same year, we had compiled 100-odd required pages, completed in triplicate, that each bore the seals of Texas and the United States of America with a copy or each in French. Then we sent multiple notarized sets them to Haiti for use when a baby became identified for us.
