Before Laura be can *join* in the adoption, she must leave the village of Camp Perrin where she is living (not with her mom) and travel at least 7 hours by bus to where the adoption agency and nursery is.
There she will get a full check up, her mom will sign her over for adoption and she will see her baby sister,Samantha, who is staying there for the long haul. Laura will leave after a week or so, though, and return to where she is staying, until we can travel to pick them both up.
Laura and Samantha are totally different ages, and to put Laura in a nursery would serioulsy interrupt her schooling. So she will legally be a ward of Haiti in the interim.
We received this very brief message 30 minutes ago about Laura's trip to Port, which had been arranged via email and a courrier, in order to get the message to Laura's mom in rural Camp Perrin. Once she heard Laura was to be adopted, we heard this....
