Sami Update - 5 days Later

October 22nd

Hello Laurie and Frank,

How are you guys doing? Hope everything's fine for you. Just wanted to let you know that Samantha is doing good, smiling, lively, and playful. After she was seen by Dr Steve (American doctor working in the mission base of Cite Lumiere near Cayes), he told me to make sure that Samantha sees an orthopedist if after 4 days she would experienc difficulty walking.

Well, Sami had just learned to walk by herself at the time of the accident(over 5-8 feet stretches under supervision). So the fall she had was a setback for her. So that's why we decided to take her to Port-au-Prince to see an orthopedist. Cayes does not have one.

This morning around 11:00, Madeleine flew to Port with Samantha and Ginette (to look after Sami) so she can be evaluated by an orthopedist. Madeleine, Norka and Marchall (reader: Norka and Masrchall are daughters) are also in Port for the wedding of Gladys' oldest daughter, Natalie.

The security situation in Haiti is still very volatile (that's why I did not drive them to Port - better be safe than sorry!). Please pray that God would protect them all them as they move about in Port for the appointement with the orthopedist and the wedding shower and ceremony.

I believe that Sami will fully recuperate, for she is not in constant pain or anything like that. But it's just wise and prudent that she be seen by an orthopedist so we hear from an expert about her final condition and what would need to be done.

A daughter is a daughter is a daughter! So I know how you could become very anxious about Sami and with good reason. But I guess what I am trying to do here is to calm your fears and your worries. Sami is so much fun to all of us in the house, and we all take great care in seeing that she is healed completely. Laura is doing pretty good, making progress with her English.

Well, that's is for now, but I'll keep informed about any new developments with Sami. Love you guys!

Your brother Nick
