How long has it taken us so far??

Well, I checked back through some of my e-mails and it seems Laurie and I were pretty determined to pursue an Haitian adoption as early as the End of September, 2003. So a little more than one year ago was when we formally began this journey.

In early February we mailed a 100 page dossier (in triplicate) to FEH - the agency representing us in the adoption process.

By the middle of May we had received a "Favorable Determination Concerning an Application to Adopt", by the US Government.

Less than two weeks later, first week of June 2004, we were e-mailed by Nick and Maneleine to tell us they had found a baby girl for us; her mom wanted to have her adopted!!

Less than one week later, as preparations were bing made to transport baby Samantha
to the orphanage, her mom had a change of heart. *major depression here*

We have not given up hope!

On June 15th, things changed again, and Samantha was taken to the orphanage hospital. She has pneumonia and is malnourished. She will now stay here healing until we pick her up. Samantha is barely 16 months old; how sick she is!

Then, before the end of July, we heard from Madeleine that Samantha's mom also wanted to have Laura adopted out. After prayer over the matter, there was no decision for us; they belong together.

By mid August we had decided we felt the girls whoould stay with NIck and Madeleine until we pick them up. They will get better attention and there are lots of girls to play with; it will be less stressful.

On Aug 30th they were picked up and returned to Camp Perrin.

It is now Nov 1 and we are still waiting to hear when we have permission from Haiti to pick up the girls. We plan to travel to Port-au-Prince where we will stay for about a week.
