Haiti or bust! - April 2005

A copt of the e-mail of our pending departure.
**************************************************

Greetings dear friends,

Well a what big day in Laurie's and my life - on Sat a.m. at about 4:00am we leave for Port-au-Price to spend a week with just our girls in a hotel. I can think of worse things; a week without cooking sounds pretty good to me right about now. We leave Sat and return a week from Monday.

For those of you who have not been in the loop for a while, this will be our first trip to visit the two girls we are adopting from Haiti. We are not expecting to be able to bring our girls home this trip, short of a miracle. So after waiting seven months, we decided we needed to visit them.

We found out about Sami (2 yrs old 02/01) in late June and her sister Laura (8 yrs old 02/27) about a month later, so it has been some time we have been waiting. Keeping in mind, our paperwork to adopt was already fully approved in the US before we even found the girls. Haiti is a very different story, however, and a tough country to adopt from. It really is sad given the significant need from poverty and AIDS orphans.

Anyway, we are so excited privileged to be able to ask for your prayers. Prayers for safety in travel; for a meaningful visit (there will be nervousness on both sides); for a Holy Spirit intervening in the bureaucracy so the paperwork can move out of Social Services and into the court system. We know God can and does work miracles among His children. Laurie and I look at this whole process as a miracle in our life; for those of you who have known us for some years, you know what we are talking about. Who would have thunk...? But if God can get Laurie and I to adopt two little Haitian girls at 44, He can certainly handle the bureaucracy of Haitian Social Services. Sigur, ca da!

We plan to meet with the director of IBESR (social services) sometime next week with the Director of our adoption agency. Your prayers for protection against spiritual warfare and for a speedy resolution so the girls can come home is our request to you.

"As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more. But from everlasting to everlasting the LORD’S love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children - with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts. The LORD has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all. Praise the LORD, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word. Praise the LORD, all his heavenly hosts, you his servants who do his will. Praise the LORD, all his works everywhere in his dominion. Praise the LORD, O my soul." Psalm 103:13-22 (NIV)

God's blessings to all of you. Our love,

Frank, Laurie and Guinness
