Friends and family,
I rushed home from meetings in the UK yesterday; this is all very new development.
At about 1:00pm on Monday this week while I was at meetings in England, Laurie apparently suffered a seizure, somehow made her way outside and passed out somewhere on our block. The girls were at school. A unknown neighbor found her and call 9-1-1 and she was immediately taken to the hospital. The neighbor began using Laurie’s call to contact someone Laurie new. Long story short, somehow on Laurie’s cell this guy opened the contact detail of our fried Diane Obbema who we have not seen in a while. A former Broomfield Sherriff, Diane is very resourceful person and I cannot think of a better person I would want to have contacted in a crisis. Little did this guy know…. Although Diane has no idea where I was, in a matter of about 20 minutes I had a call at my hotel in England T advising me to call the hospital.
By the time I called, Diane answered. Laurie was fully sedated and they had taken control of the seizure. No news on a cause yet, but Cat Scans would follow soon; at 2:00am UK, Laurie called me herself to say the scans had revealed a tumor on the front of her cranium pressing against the right side of her brain. Given its size, the doctors were surprised this was the first seizure. I saw the pictures – now that I am home – and became scared for the second time in as many days.
Laure is scheduled for tumor removal next Thursday at Swedish Medical Center in Denver. We’ll know more once they get a good look at it; it is expected to be about a five day procedure and inpatient recoup.
I’ll keep you informed as much as I can.
Thanks for being in our lives. We love you all.
