I am developping a new resepct for folks who struggled with family illness; folks who perhaps may not have been as well off and capabale of dealing with life's issues as Laurie and I am. Even just visiting this side of life for a little more than two weeks now - the incredulous maze of challenges one is faced when a loved one falls sick is very real.
How a family or couple who has suffered a calamity in life, might suddenly find themselves living on the streets if things do not go quite right. So easy. It happens. A loved one gets really sick; you take time off to care for them, your loved one does not get better, the insurance runs out, stress causes your job to not work out well in the end, and so on....until one day you look around and there is just nothing, and noone is there to shelter you.
I have met folks to whom this has happened, but this event in our life has brought me closer to understanding the reality of their situation. And it's no fun.
