Just heard from the o/r nurse. Laurie is doing very well.
The neurodocs have just finished testing the motor functions in the brain with Laurie - who is now awake, with the top of her head open - and Dr Lillihei as just now beginning to remove, bit by bit, the tumor. I say in bits, but I really have no idea what substance it is. Could be in blobs.
This removal is expected to go well and should take another couple hours at which point they will call me again. Also during this process, they will pass along parts of the bits or blobs for biopsy so they can understand the real nature of the beast. They did not indicate that any part of this is any different than they anticipated before. Very promising.
