Ah, yes. The blog break. It HAS been some time since the last entry. All I can say is the further away we get from the crisis that started all of this, the more tired I am. Most days I find myself saying something like, 'Shoot! It's xx.xx o'clock and I forgot to post today'.
I actually want to write from yesterday, Saturday. Robin, if you are reading this, you will get a kick out of this.
Laurie and I did our monthly (or so) COSTCO run. We did this after we bought a new car. Can you believe it? Our Mountaineer was dying a slow death and we decided to eeke as much worth out of it in a trade-in as we could, and get low interest rates, etc...so we did. PAIN! Buying a car! That's for another time, though.
I think it was because of that pain though, that we managed to spend a small fortune at COSTCO on our monthly trek for volume items we use. I am sure the Americans reading this know how large and jostling one of these stores is on a Saturday late morning. And you may also know that in the same area where the store-made-pizzas are fridged, is where household cleaning products begin. At least where we shop they do. And it was here at this intersection, this weekend, that we ran into our friends Joe and Lisa.
I say friends, although I can't say either of us have been much good friends lately. We first met at Pathways Uptown a few years ago, and eventually began meeting in a small group with a couple of others; somehow things fizzled and it eventually it all just stopped. That was more than two years ago.
But now I think God was actually trying to tell us something at COSTCO....
You see, it was more than two years ago, when Laurie and I stopped going to Pathways and decided to look around some. Last I remember, folks just stopped coming to the samll group. Lack of interest - not a great feeling.
But God does try to get our attention in our everyday life; it is not only overseas in the mission field or when we are on our knees praying, or what we are silent in church Sunday morning. Isn't that the question we always ask: 'Do you know when God talks to you?'
So you might find it intresting that, with yesterday in mind, it was about a year ago, while Laurie and I happened to be shopping at COSTCO (also) sometime suring the Chirstmas season (also), while shopping for (you guessed it) store-made-pizzas, that we had run into JOE AND LISA! Yes, Joe and Lisa; and that was a year ago. And it happened again yesterday.
We met the same couple in the same store in the same section around the same time of year. Last year - and now again this year. And on both occasions we had brief but quite re-engaging conversaton. My instinct then, as it was yesterday, was: we should get back together because I think we may still have stuff left to do together. We never did call last year.
So you understand my somewhat trepidation, realizing that God may be trying to get our attention! I mentioned this to Laurie so as soon as we walked away; we were in agreement. Who knows?! I am going to follow up on my instinct just to be sure.
So, you tell me how you know when God is talking to you!? To me - on the rare occasions when I thought it might be happening, there was only one thing in common that I am aware of. And that is I had a sense that it was happening.
Please pay attention to that still, small voice that may be trying to get your attention.
